The West Indian Parade
This event draws over two million people every Labor Day to enjoy the festivities and Caribbean culture. The West Indian Parade is a seven-hour New York carnival that takes place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The parade starts at the Brooklyn Museum at 11 a.m. and goes down Eastern Parkway. Pre-parade parties begin before dawn with J’ouvert (French for daybreak), an irreverent festival that is held before the parade. Throughout the route of the parade you can find food vendors selling local homestyle dishes and enjoy music being played on steel drums and whistles. People who attend the festival tend to dress up as political figures or celebrities and throw powdered paint at each other. If you want to immerse yourself in the Caribbean culture, there’s no better NYC Labor Day events than this one!
Riis Park Beach Bazaar
This beach party brings together all of things that you could need for the perfect day out. What’s better than enjoying the beach, some music, and food? Almost all of the NYC Labor Day events going down this year offer some type of music and entertainment but probably not on a beach. Rockaway Beach will have concession stands at Bay 9 East where you can enjoy various food vendors. Get some drinks while you party and enjoy shopping on the boardwalk as well. If you would like more programming details, visit the Riis Park Beach Bazaar website.
